...if you carry *all* exception conditions to the outside of a deeply nested loop; and it exposes the control variables of inner loops to code outside their normal scope.

Both, in my experience (and I've been doing this for a *long* time), are actually more hazardous than a GOTO.

The only *clean* way out of this, is to use a language with *real* exception handling (and the "C++" way *isn't* clean).

Unfortunately, most of those (like "Ada") are almost too horrible to contemplate, even for a dyed-in-the-wool language lawyer like myself.
