goto by perldude2002-06-11 09:00:28
There are several cases where goto is appropriate. by Yohimbe2002-06-11 09:19:09

Don't know if I will go with you on that one- why use 'em if you don't have to? If your if tree is that deeply nested, the code can probably be simplified. Sticking gotos in there as an easy way out makes for really hard to maintain code. I have never needed a goto within a recursive function, either. If you are ever using recursion, then there should be a pretty simple case that kicks you out of it...no goto needed.

As to the compiler producing better code... *shrug* Even if that is true, my guess is that maintainability will save more $$$ than saving a few extra instructions will 99.99% of the time.

Not "tree", or "recursion", but "loop"! by HadEnuf2002-06-11 10:04:42
