I disagree that it's ever acceptable to use goto to exit a deep recursive structure. That's what last and break statements are for (and no, those aren't goto's, breaking out of a block isn't the same as goto). Of course, that requires using a civilised language like Perl.

and now to show my ignorance... some languages *only* use goto for subroutine, like assembly... right?
