| While it's true that the entire system is designed to disallow a single person or a small group of people from taking control, an individual makes a much easier target for public backlash. The more people you add to the list, the more difficult it is to get others to take your side. In this case, it's even harder because the system was put in place by many people over the course of many years. Most of those responsible for the "bad" policy of today are no longer a part of the government, so placing blame on them would just not be feasible. Instead, we need to recognize bad policy as it's being made, and call them on it. From past experience, however, government officials are unlikely to listen to the warnings of those who pay attention, but rather the "popular" opinion, which is most often formed by those who do not wish to take the time to get all of the facts. So the blame can't be placed on the government, but rather on the public. |
