NT/2K/SCO Unix sysadmin for FAR too long.

In this case it *may* be my ADSL modem drivers (well, the first symptom was that the modem was mis-behaving).

I know the Reg is only an internal DB, the pain is that even though I have an ER disk here I can't fix it because the only way to restore from it is to boot off the W2K install CD & (being a corporate laptop) that is in the office.

At least with *nix I would be able to boot single-user on the console or from (worst case) a FDD and restore the files by hand...
