depends on the make of harddrive - i've put my systems thru some pretty grueling temperature variations they've survived 90+ degree summers in my old apartment and after living there for 4 years or so with no a/c in the summer and dodgy heat at best in the winter - i only had one crash - probably within 6 months of moving in. if the data is worth it and you have the cash - you might try a disk recovery service - but those can be expensive. you can of course try re-arranging your set up so that the computer is away from the window (and any other major heat source).
