Does anyone know of by Llyr2002-06-10 15:01:23
Depending on which network your on by Arienadean 2002-06-10 17:45:59
they(the ircops) might not like the bot so first I'd suggest asking them.(to avoid them kicking you off) That is if you mean just leaving such a thing running. Now it its some scripts and people know its scripts then usually they don't care much. However some networks do watch channel content in the sense that warez, adult topics, etc are also forbidden in that case you have to watch what the bot might blurb out. A few people I know got klined two diffrent networks over earlier versions of b*tchX chat program giving adult oriented quit messages.(they didn't know how to shut it off at first or that it said them... later people helped them fix it and explained it to the ircops and they were let back on the networks which were considered "family" networks).

Depending on what chat program you use often their offical sites offer script archives. If its linux you might find a chatbot on freshmeat or on Xchat.org. If its mirc there is mirc-scripts.org I think(anyways several off the official mirc site that offer a variety of bots and scripts).

Years ago for one of my channels I ran a friend created me a bartender bot.(back before dalnet got taken over but adult stuff and warez I ran a autism channel there) The bot was great for when the channel was quiet or when we were all in a silly mood and wanted to unwind. The bot would make drinks(well comments or ascii) or it would play games with us. Chromatix for his irc client has a "!seen" script which you can make say silly comments.(ie "!seen a moose with a wedgie" and it would say something like "no I've not seen a moose with a bedgie")
