I suppose it's a matter of principle. I feel that any audience member who subscribes is making a direct financial contribution to UF and thus should not have to support it twice by being subjected to advertising messages. I know I'm being a bit of an idealist, but it always irked me to have to sit through ads in a movie theatre after I've paid my twelve dollars.

Having said that, as a paid member, you do still have the option of logging out and visiting the site with the ads viewable. As can be seen in a thread below, there are some paid members who do this, and I can't thank them enough for doing so.

Finally, on the subject of ad dollars vs. subscribers. Quite frankly, if fully one half of UF's audience became paid members, we would pull down more money than any advertising campaign could possibly pay us. If we get to that point, the projects we could do with that kind of funding is so tantalizing I get numb thinking about it. :)
