| they werent "saving themselves", and the reason they pulled back wasnt because they were trying to protect their goal either. If you watch the play you can still clearly see that they were playing the ball forward when they were able. The problem is that they were just too dog tired to outrun the koreans in the second half. The US subs in the second half werent at all defensive...as a matter of fact, those players are known as strong offensive. The Koreans just plain out-hustled the US in the second half, and there was nothing anyone could do about it. I dunno if anyone here has been to korea, but this time of year it is very humid. It's like trying to breathe hot air through a very damp paper towel. They were used to it, the US wasnt... A very good example of this is Korea's goal...if you watch the beginning of the game...you would KNOW Agoos could jump higher than that! He was just too exhausted to make it up there. The States clung on for dear life that second half, sucking it up and pusing themselves to breaking...and they were darned lucky to get the tie at all! |
