As he extended his arm, he suddenly felt like the enitre weight of the Earth was pulling against him. As he progressed inch by inch, the pull seemed to increase, as though as if someone was preventing him from trying to learn what was encompassing his head. As the torment of the pulling increase, as well as the pain from fighting it, Jim began to question if something went wrong, and he had found himself somewhere in a painful, dark existance that he knew would be waiting for him in the next life. But still he contiuned, not out of curiosity or of desire, but of sheer necessity. He had to get to what was bringing him the pain, whether it be to feed the burning need for an answer to where he was, or to show his tormentors that they would have to try better, even he wasn't entirely sure.
As quickly as the pain started, it ended. Jim's hand landed upon something cold, something hard. From furiously feeling the surface with his fingers, he decided that is was metal. He fumbled across the surface of the enclosure, exploring, trying to find something that would help him. After a few moments (which seemed like an eternity) he found what felt like a valve. He turned the plam sized wheel frantically, as though the sooner he did so, the sooner it would ease his pain. Suddenly, Jim's sense of hearing returned and was greeted in a chorus of hisses and squeals. Just as fast as the noise began, it stopped. Jim sat still for a few moments longer, wondering what he had just done.
Soon, the answer had come to him in a blinding flash of light. Like a moth, Jim made his body surge for it, as though it would be his salvation. He felt something grab onto his body, and soon, his eyes began to adjust to the world around him. He was back in the room from which he started, and the same, unknown woman was looking at him, with that same forced smile. She held his shoulders, and said nothing. Jim looked around and noticed he was sitting in what could only be described as a metal casket of sorts. Jim had remembered hearing about such a device that was used to speed up the recovery of patients that had similar procedures done, but had never actually witnessed one before. This only showed the importance of what he was going through.
The mystery woman let go of Jim's shoulders and took a step back. As she serveyed the area, she slowly lost her simle. She then slowly turned around and walked through the room's door. Jim knew he was in for a long process, but he also knew that if he could successfully get through the process, the benefits would be unlimited for countless people.
