going back and reading through what I had originally wrote, I only used the word "troll" once. This was perhaps a bad word choice, but I was referring to the fact that it was "labelled" a troll in the subject line. When you called me on it I just defended myself. Thinking about what you have said you are right. I wasn't intending to refer to it as a troll in a bad way, but simply as a convenient word for a discussion starter such as this. I personally would have called this a troll based on the likely responses (and afterwards, the actual responses) no matter who posted it. Granted I would have been MUCH quicker to say "troll" if it had been Naruki, but that's just expected. You are much more likely to draw intelligent (and no-so-intelligent) discussion on a topic like this rather than toss out an offensive statement and then defend it, like a more trollish person would do.
That being said, the phrasing of this (a deliberate insult to immigrants) is not necessarily the best way to spark discussion while avoiding being labelled as a troll. You *could* have said some variation of my "quote" in the other thread and gotten some of the same responses, although I for one appreciate the way you decided to do it. (I'm not going into any of my personal views because they're irrelavent here.) The way you put it, and the subject line, immediately lend themsleves to people yelling "troll" and whether or not you meant it as such, this is more or less what it turned out to be. (Is something a "troll" based on intent or perception/reception...? There's another debate.)
And one last thing: IMO, "drawing responses" = "seeing what the community thought". Now there may be a subtle difference but for most or all intents and purposes these are the same things.
