The offense, to me, was not the obscenity as such. by adiplomat2002-06-07 09:12:45

Egaeus' first sentence:
Thanks nin_man, I'm about to lose my never-moderated status.
And that was it. That was the only mention he made that he might get moderated. Your overly strong reaction to his violation of the language rule makes no sense.
  • If you are truly offended by swear words, I can understand it. But you've used them in the past.
  • If you are truly offended by the general tone of the post, then it is a personal issue and not one to cry havoc about.
  • If you are truly offended by the mere fact that he broke a rule, and you refuse to consider extenuating circumstances, then you're being an idiot yourself.

The analogy to speeding is perfectly apt. It is normally a minor offense, just as is using a swear word or two. There is a huge difference between going 10 miles over the speed limit and driving 150 through rush hour traffic. You would seem to think both are "morally outrageous".

If your horse is really that high, you are going to get seriously hurt when you fall off. I'm betting, however, that you have other things going on in your life just now and haven't had time to think about this rationally. This is why I caution you to chill out and let this go.
