Question of the Day! by kickstart2006-11-19 12:23:33
Hmm. Right now? It'd have to be a tossup by bladedancer 2002-06-07 09:53:29
between:

- Dylan Thomas's "Do Not Go Gentle"
- Gerald Manley Hopkins' "The Windhover" or "To A Young Child"
- Neil Gaiman's _Sandman_ series. (Gaiman-sama!)

Y'know, I wonder what it says about me that two of my favorite poems deal with loss. *bemused*

On the other hand, "The Windhover" is one of the best efforts I've seen to put the original sense of the word ecstasy -- "An exalted state of feeling which engrosses the mind to the exclusion of thought; rapture, transport." as OED.com puts it -- into words.

And I consider 'Sandman' to be one of the finest pieces of work I've seen. I still boggle at the sheer number of references and allusions that Gaiman-sama managed to work in without bogging the whole thing down *and* sucking the reader into his world.

Disclaimer: Still severely pre-caffeine, so blame any mistakes on that. :)
