Stupid people will always lag behind. But allowing spanish only in the schools (some of the schools tried this) really handicaps the smart kids as well. I think it's the classic democratic tradeoff. Allowing Spanish only ensures that no spanish speaker will be left without an education. Even if that education isn't a very good one. But in return you hinder any of the bright ones from really excelling. (Thats the problem in our public schools. We got so concerned with making sure no one was left behind, that we forgot about letting the bright ones move ahead.)
