To work in unskilled labor. No American goes to Mexico to build houses, or pick crops, jobs which do not need a great deal of language skill to be successful.

The problem with allowing Spanish-only speakers is that it forever restricts them to certain areas and certain jobs, and it greatly limits any chance of advancement. For the first generation this is not a problem. But it also locks thier children and grandchildren into the same low economic class.
