before I started using 2000, that is. I was able to fix it by going to my Sound Control Panel (forget the exact name of it, as I've been using Win2k since beta 3 came out some 3 or 4 years ago). Anyhow, poke around until you find a list of system events with speaker icons next to them. Somewhere in here will be a listing that reads something like "System Shutdown". Select it and disable the sound that goes with it.
