with Raid 5 and a black cloud.

Fought with it for over a year. Replaced every component short of the case and bolts.

It kept reporting dead (or dying) drives (or it was killing them somehow). Bad enough - but now add the complication that the supplier stopped carrying the 9GB drives that were in that (cursed) system.

Meanwhile it's twin (identical spec', bought at the same time) runs without a problem.

OK, you seem to understand RAID5. I have a question:
What happens to a RAID5 set when you replace a drive with one of a different (larger) capacity?
