is to always keep spare parts. Its SOP for me to buy spare batteries, drives, ac adapters for laptops. Hard drives and NIC's (of the same model) for workstations/servers. And these are not mission critical machines either (You don't want to know the kind of stockpile i'd spec' for a system that's mission critical). But i'm also lucky enough to be in a position to be able to do such things.
