sounds like ti was stable because it was only running one thing - NT is great as long as you don't over-task it (that is ask it to run anything more than one app) and frankly that is the first time i've ever seen that kind of uptime on an NT box - i think the case is more that admin's will write a batch job to reboot the stupid thing once a day. 2 years is nice - but i think its an isolated incident - i'll still take VMS any day for stability (or better yet a Tandem - if you can find one ;)
