Not all plugs come gapped correctly for your particular car. If you go to an auto parts store, like AutoZone or somesuch, and request plugs specifically for your car, they'll usually be set to the right gap for your car.

But if you just go and grab a set off the shelf, chances are they'll be a few thousandths of an inch off one way or another. So you end up having to gap them anyway.
