Depends on the condition...

If you keep your car nice and clean, don't drive it off-road &c too often and have the plugs checked regularly then it shoudln't be a big job - more like 20 mins than 40.

OTOH, if he needs to go and get a bigger spanner coz (like most of us ;-) you only do this when there appears to be something wrong, he could well be at it for a good-ish while...

DIY is great, but be CAREFUL if you need to re-gap them... It is very easy to break the terminals while you're adjusting them.
