Ah, the dreaded "but first" syndrome... very common amongst us
ADDers. (No, not "butt first", though it somehow seems
an appropriate image.) You're going to do something, but first
... Here's what works for me.
Force ytourself to write down what you're going to do. One
sentence only. It doesn't have to make sense to anybody
else. It's not a plan or an outline. It sure as shootin' ins't
a list. One sentence. Keep that slip of paper in
front of you. That's what you're doing. When you start
thinking of doing other things, read that slip and get back to
it. This technique works for me great. Part of the trick is to
firmly believe that it's important to do the task on
the paper and nothing else. Obviously you'll sometimes get
sidetracked by coworkers, family, etc. That's OK. Just
remember that you're centered on one task and if something else
doesn't HAVE to be done right now then don't do it. |
