This is part of an ongoing trend by mcnutcase 2002-06-05 05:42:51
English has been mutating in similar ways ever since it became a language. Chaucer had many more tenses and cases available to him, some of which are no longer found - does this mean we are in the wrong? British English, being spoken by a smaller population, mutates more rapidly than American English, which leads to such incompatabilities as you gave. Furthermore, the subjunctive is rarely appropriate (although I personally do use it) and as such is not likely to be preserved.
