I'm currently 19 years old, the sidekick is 27. I do not feel I can give a child a secure future, a loving home and all those other things a child needs. Therefore, it would not be humane to give birth to one.
Of course one can argue that if you're not yet ready for having a baby, you shouldn't have sex. But that's not realistic. When people love each other, sex seems a natural expression of that. A baby can be the concrete outcome of such love, but not all lovers have enough money to support a child, or lack the emotional stability.
I myself try to take as much precautions as I can to prevent me from getting into this situation. That's probably the best option... Better safe then sorry!
