there's only so much creativity | by mcnutcase | 2002-06-05 00:31:03 |

than it first appears.
The reason creativity is waning is the influx of semi-literate individuals who can barely process what a caps key is, much less come up with something interesting to either troll or flame with.
Blame AOL and Gates for this Marching Moron effect.
AOL is in the business of making the internet available to anyone with the wherewithal to purchase a computer. Their browser system is designed explicitly to reduce the technical skill level required to use a computer, specifically on the Net.
The huge success of AOL is proof that this market segment is ripe and ready.
Gates started even before AOL by bringing the computing public a usable GUI, thus obviating a level of skill in DOS as a requirement for using a computer. Each successive generation of Windows reduces the skill set required to use a pc, until you reach XP, which is basically an AOL style OS.
Finally, the continuation of this trend is proved viable by the success of MSN, followed closely by Earthlink, and a host of others attempting to emulate AOL's success, and grab a share of their moron market segment.
Do not expect this trend to reverse any time soon. As someone once said, (sort of) you'll never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the public.
Advances in programming and technology are bringing the required skill sets, and thus the required intelligence of the average user down on a daily basis.
Expanding population, coupled with an already overburdened school system (I think that probably holds true for most every country in the world) provides us with a market of 'average' people that is ever increasing.
Those of us in tech support know just how bad it is on the front lines, and know that it will only get worse as time goes on.
In the meantime, the average IQ of people online is dropping like a lead shot off the Tower of Pisa as more and more people with less and less required skill sets get online access.
I look forward (with extreme trepidation) to the day when discussions on UF sound like this;
a: Doh..dat's a funnie on. I likes dat cartoonz
