In a Usenet far far away, the Green Card Lawyers became the first people to thoroughly spam Usenet, thus providing fodder beyond belief for flame wars and trolls on all sides of the spam argument. In fact, I think the term spam showed up right about that time. On a side note, one of the best flame wars I was ever involved in took place between me and a co-worker, on a local newsgroup (van.general). The most amusing part of it was that we sat approximately 2.5 feet apart in the office (our desks faced opposite walls of the same cubicle). Memories.
