On the topic of moddable words... by adiplomat2002-06-03 22:02:05

in my case when I use "*" I'm not trying to be insulting, etc... But I'm doing it because it might be borderline in the FYOS sence and I can't tell if I'll violate the rule or come close. To younger ones the "*" they might not get to ones over 14 they could fill in the blanks...<shrug>

As for using "*" in subject lines to cover things that would be profanity... I don't like that either. :/ But then again I'm a person who *rarely* uses profanity offline even.

I'm also guessing your referring to the refrence made on royalty below. Some countries that had royalty have had to deal with some nasty things (either being on the giving or recieving end of it). However that often was in history... to someone of that nation or affiliated to it they'd perhaps have a right to make comment. However they should respect others rights to have a differing view. Also national holidays are just that a holiday. Many people enjoy them even if they don't care what they are about. My family had a fondness for the British royals... My dad met them while training during WWII(he had the chance to talk to them a few times), my great uncle was a coldstreamer, etc. To me personally they do have some place. In todays society America has Hollywood and the rest of us have our varying royalties, etc. Some of either group the public either loves or hates for reasons specific to each person... But anyways on national holidays they exist for some ceremonial reason. That reason usually has some meaning in the history of the peoples involved. It's wrong to hassle them because they enjoyed it. Some that enjoyed it probably didn't care about the reason for it they just liked the party... though others might of enjoyed it for it's meaning. On such things it's perhaps better to agree to disagree than insult a large group of people. To say you take issue with it is one thing but it's they way people state their issue with it...
