...computer tech with mainboard up left nostril...
With my experience it was a Quantum Atlas V 9Gig SCSI hard drive...at least that was what I ordered. I explained very nicely that I had an Adaptec 2940U2W in my machine and needed a new drive (my 4 Gig Seagate had died). He placed the order and said it will take 2 weeks for delivery.
3 weeks later I pick up the drive and take it home. Upon opening the package I realize it's got a very unusualy connecter. No power connector...no jumpers to set the ID...just one big plug at the back of the drive.
As anyone with experience building drive arrays will know, this drive is f*****g useless to home machines. I take it back to the store and the technician tells me "No refunds, it's a special order," and (this one kills me), "That's the new SCSI connector. All new drives come like that."
After I rather loudly explained the finer points of SCSI devices and the fact that there's no way to connect power to the f*****g drive the manager made a rather hasty appearance. He was nice enough to supply a $30 adapter for free to get the drive to work. They could get the adapter in 1 day but a repacement drive would have been another 2 weeks...grr... |
