I've been in that similar situation. But by time they got around to my layoff, my former 'cow-irkers' managed to poison the job pool fairly well by their incompetence. I found out that many times my resume was tossed because of where I formerly worked. I was good enough to keep my job for almost a year after the layoffs started. By time I was looking, my former cow-irkers managed to get a high level of incompetence associated with my former employer. Therefore, I wasn't even given a chance.
Hopefully, you won't have to deal with that.
