Just lost my D Drive with all my games, video clips, photos and 13Gb of music on it. System restets did nothing but produce some "hey this drive is not happy" noises. Completely turned off the system, removed the drive, checked the drive circuit board for any instances of dry joint. Nothing. Plug it all back in and the thing works. Goes to show that rule #2 of Dok's guide to electronics still works: Simply pulling it apart will often fix the problem, don;t ask why.

Any one interested in rule #1 : If you drop a screw, you will loose it.
