since the LARTs will probably be flying fast and furious, but I think you are mistaking a less than perfect knowledge of English for an annoying accent. I would also like to point out that if they are speaking English well enough for you to understand it, even if they mess the grammar up a bit, then they have already done quite a bit towards at least attempting to learn a common tongue.
I know many native born, second-, third- or more- generation Americans who don't have a decent grasp of grammar and syntax.
I also wonder just how long you expect someone to practice a foreign language before they actually use it in public?
On the other hand, you did make one valid point. If your job requires that you communicate with others who speak English, you should be able to communicate reasonably well in it. (Unless of course, you live in a country where English is not the most widely spoken language.)
btw, were you aware that English is NOT the national language of the US? We have no national language. English just happens to be the (currently) most widely used. |
