...protected. What isn't protected is the use of someone else's music. The cost of a single song bed is around $40K canuck, so a dozen DP & E parody songs would cost us half a million dollars. What a lot of people don't realize is that Weird Al gets clearance and permission from the bands/singers of which he parodies. He may or may not pay for the song beds, but likely he does.
