Waddya know, I actually did know what it was... by IByte 2002-05-13 17:02:17

I just didn't know that that's what it's called.

<rant>And as for the phrase 'left as an exercise to the reader', I can't begin to describe how much I hate that phrase (who cares, I'll do it anyway). The reader of my Algebra course, for which I've recently done a test (I think I've passed, I'm waiting for the result. Coincidentally, it did contain the formulas in your post.), did it all the time; they even numbered those exercises...

Sample excerpt:
blabla1. This is proven in Exercise 51.
Exercise 51
Prove that blabla1.

AAAARGH! How should I be able to learn and understand anything if I have to do everything myself? What's next; the whole reader summed up in one exercise?
Exercise 1
Learn this course and pass the test.

Thinking that, I'm not surprised I didn't pass the first time...</rant>
