Jedi Outcast? Could it be an AGP problem? by smcv 2002-04-29 05:16:21
A lot of recent VIA-based mobos have a bug related to caching and the AGP bus, which can cause memory corruption and crashes... in practice, bad stuff only happens if you're using AGP heavily (i.e. 3D acceleration) and your OS is new enough to exploit a Pentium/Pentium-compatible performance tweak (IIRC that means Win2K+ or Linux 2.4+, but WinME might do so too, I'm not sure). In Linux you put mem=nopentium on the kernel's "command line" to revert to the old behaviour, in Windows there's a Registry hack to go back to the old behaviour.
