I don't really know why it happened. I was listening to streaming audio (music), and downloading a file. In the middle of this, my system locked up. Frozen tight. I hit reset, and Norton Disk Doctor ran automatically at boot. It reported the FAT on my C: partition was damaged, and that C: drive had lost clusters. I had Disk Doctor repair the damage, and when it was finished, the system dropped out to the command prompt. Windows couldn't load. Then I did a "dir" command on the C: partition, and got garbage. The whole C: partition was trashed.
What a mess.
I've gotten the system restored now, pretty much. Fortunately, the only thing on the C: partition is the Windows98 OS. I keep everything else on other partitions. |
