yes in the same way as hypertension, type II diabetes and obesity 'tend to be genetic'. Complex traits are complex traits and estimating the genetic contribution is very hard - researchers will tell you its between 30% and 80% depending on who you talk to. Mental illness may well be due to some genetic factors, but I would hesitate to use those words given so little is known about mental illness as a whole... Lets all just go to our doctors for a course of Seroxat eh? Thats what everyone else seems to do... Mask the underlying causes with a nice chemical instead :-/
