I liked Ben Sisco from Deep Space Nine, even though he may not have exactly been a starship captian. I just think that, as a commander of a space station, he had a much more diverse array of topics to deal with, and managed to handle them all spectacularly. Also, this diversity allowed for deeper character development: we see him with his family, on the holodeck with friends, and in a great many places where other Star Trek captains were not shown in. Umm...yeah.
