I studied this play in 7th grade. In Aladdin, the bird's name is Iago, after the main antagonist (is that the right word? It's supposed to mean villain) from Shakespeare's Othello. He is a psychopath who play mind tricks on everyone else, gets everyone else to kill each other, then kills himself.
