I think it's a good idea as a supplement to your resume. You have to have something to hand to them, something to email out, something you can send them as a follow-up. You might not be able to give them an in-person "slide show."
If these are mostly mom & pop places, are you trying to get hired as a contractor or as an employee? In either case, the resume will help, but the slide show will get you further as a contractor.
Even though I do believe in resumes, I think that you are onto something with your little creative marketing approach here. Just be sure to cover all your bases-- this can't replace a document that says "I know how to do this, this, this, and this" in a clear format that the reader is familiar with. Because they can't refer to your slide show after you're gone, some of your audience may not remember you, or may not understand why they should hire you. Also, some people are visual learners, and others are text learners-- the text learners won't understand the value of your presentation. Give them the familiar format (the resume) to help them remember and understand. |
