Why does he have to "shoulder the burden" with "little or no apparent gratitude"? It sounds like you're saying he's supposed to march on like a good soldier, even if his family doesn't care about whether he likes his job or not, or how he feels about it, or anything. Why does he have to be dishonest if he's "worried about something"? Why does he have to put himself last? Or were you making an ironic statement about what you think society expects a "real man" to be like?
