any thoughts on how to pull bits of an ls -l (or equivalent) into a perl program? i need to create an index file for directories that i'm loading up with files - right now i'm working on getting the file name and date into the file (the other info is not from an ls(1) but extracted out of a database file (tricky - but i'm not worrying about that at the moment)
