Look, if the artists could/would pay for recording an album themselves, they would not have to deal with a record company. But that would take a lot of money, expertise and quite a bit of risk (they may not make money on the CD).
If you have a suggestion on how artists can get around their problem and convince someone else to take on the costs and risk in some way other than how record companies do it, I'd be glad to hear it.
Besides, mattaj was not talking about listeners who eventually buy the CDs, s/he was talking about those who download tons of mp3s without ever purchasing anything (e.g. college students who say the # of mp3s they have is 'somewhere around 800'). |
