I had a user who was being a complete and total dork. I gave his system a static IP, set up a rule disallowing his internet/intranet/WAN access, access to shared file folders, printers and most other network resources, and installed WinVNC on his system while he was away.
Later, the fun began as I watched him try & figure out why nothing seemed to work. Of course, I was "far too busy at the moment to be able to do more than take a quick look at it," and "hmm, strange...I don't think I've ever seen this before...seems to be exclusive to this system...I'll have to come back to it when I've got more time to play with it. Sorry."
Nobody ever knew exactly what I'd done, but he seemed to catch on, at least to the fact that I wouldn't help him until he straightened his attitude up...a week later, after he'd mellowed out a bit and learned his place, I gave him his rights back, removed WinVNC and took away the static IP.
Judicious wielding of SysAdmin power can be used to good effect. |
