So everything that is not new is bad? by fredf 2002-03-18 09:17:36
Are PC's stagnating the industry, or is the industry stagnating PC's?

Just because the global-economy is stagnating, and not growing as it was 2-3 years ago does not mean that PC's are reaching a dead end. It only means that companies are not spending as much on research as they were. Something new will come along eventually, but for now, you have to take what you can get. Saying that something has been around for long enough when it *works* is just plain stupid.

Automobiles have been around for approximately twice as long as computers right? (The first computer was built in the 60's I believe, and the first car, around the turn of the last century.) So by your rationale, we should get rid of cars. They are still useful, but development is reaching a dead end. All they can do now is make them safer and get better gas mileage. Does that make any sense? PC's are getting faster and more powerful, and we have a long way to go before we have done everything we can do on them.

PC's are a good concept; they are tried and true. Why reinvent the wheel? (let's see how many cliches I can fit in here.;) ) We cannot yet fathom what else PC's can do or will do in the future. I have heard people say that the Technological Renaissance is over, however I for one believe that it has only begun.
