| Have you ever read "Helm" by Steven Gould? It has an excellent example of when violence may be necessary for compromise. In the book, a character was faced with a choice: kill a man or let him induce a panic which would kill thousands and maybe everyone. Although, there were other options available - they were all counterproductive to the continuation of humanity. So, in this case I feel that this would be the proper response: "Either quit the violence within 24 hours, or neither of you will exist tomorrow." I guess I am still a bit violent myself. ;) And, I feel that after the violence has ended - perhaps, a permanent peace can be established there. |
