Frozen mouse, no keyboard input, a mystery...help! by AmberDog 2002-03-16 14:47:16
Hello all! Here's a second-hand comptuer problem.

My boss just called me at home. She's getting RoadRunner installed at her house, and she was moving her computer. So she disconnected the parts (didn't take anything apart, just unhooked the cables), moved her computer, and then put it back together. Now, her computer still starts up normally, but the cursor is frozen and hitting keys on the keyboard has no effect. She already tried unplugging/replugging the stuff, and she says she knows she has the right cables hooked up because they all have pictures on them (e.g. the mouse cable goes to the port on the computer with the picture of the mouse; also, they're color-coded.) She's running Windows XP. She didn't install any new hardware.

Does anyone know what would cause the problem of frozen mouse/keyboard, aside from cables not being properly connected?

Maybe I should mention, this isn't part of my job, it's just sort of a pride thing. As the closest thing the college's English Dept. has to a functioning computer geek, I'm supposed to be able to fix everything. :)
