society was redefined to be a group of people cohabitating an environment, while sharing a common ethos? Could not such a group survive in a dynamic hierarchy wherein each individual does what they enjoy the most and therefore are most productive at? And every basic need is met by the society, so that everyone has equal opportunity to advance themselves? Now, if we accept Kohlberg's theory of moral development, the majority of humans never develop to the point to where such a society could work - but, that is a social problem and can be changed with time. So, such a society is possible, IMO, if not probable at this point in time. But, this sort of setup finds its greatest use in space (at this point in time) as current forms of society are not going to be ideal up there. No laws are necessary, what laws have we now? I could summarize all of our current laws and social taboos in: "Don't get caught.". Now, you might say that the common ethos I mentioned previously should be the law - but, it is not
effective if enforced, rather it must be accepted and selfenforced to truly be effective, so a "law" makes no sense as the only law that can ever be enforced is "Don't get caught.". |
