Actually there is quite a similarity between Germany and Britain here...

They had Thatcher for 14 years (or something) we had Kohl for even longer. So both them and tried something new and I can't say the British seem very happy about Blair and I don't know many who are happy with Schröder...

(Your spelling seems ok, (I don't know about the "Gerhardt" there's about one thousand possible spellings for that name) and who's to blame for not having nice characters like äöüß on their keyboard :))
