dagnabit - thats what i get for not proofing the question more closely before final submit - shoulda read "potential security hole in modems" - but researchers have found that essentially - modems blink in a kind of morse code - the binary 1's and 0s - such that someone with a line of site could record and then decipher the datastream - but only on older - slower modems where the blinking is more pronounced - doesn't hold true with NICs, switches, hubs or routers tho.
