But to a counter-point to a counter-point, it depends on which compiler optimizations and options on what program are being used, and will it really make a difference, or should I just use an RPM? I'm not saying one is better than the other; each has its perils, but some of us don't have a need/desire to do such a thing (unless it does really matter; then yeah, I compile too. Some things I compile because of the massive gain from the contemplation and configure options I get really do get a substantual gain. But if it's just bash or X-Chat or Mozilla, then expect me to use an RPM or DEB.)
